The HTC Vive XR Elite, an all-in-one VR headset designed to compete with the Meta Quest 2, has been announced by HTC at CES 2023.
Due to its small size, the HTC Vive XR Elite stands apart from the majority of gaming VR headsets. Only a few inches of the front of the headset protrude from your face. In order to take the weight off your face, the battery was also inserted inside the back headrest. Unfortunately, the Vive XR Elite weighs 625g overall, which is more than the 503g Meta Quest 2.
Similar to the company’s previous offering, the HTC Vive Flow, the Vive XR Elite appears to be a less formal and basic set of VR goggles. However, despite having a 110-degree field of view and a 4K resolution with 2K displays for each eye, it is still a very capable headset for gaming.
The headgear has a Snapdragon XR 2 CPU with 12GB of RAM and 120GB of ROM for local gaming and multimedia storage. For a higher-resolution, desktop-powered VR experience, you can of course also connect this headset via USB-C to a gaming PC. The battery has a two-hour rating and a 30W rapid charging capability, so you should be able to charge it halfway in 30 minutes.
The HTC Vive XR Elite is anticipated to hit stores in February and will cost around €1,000 when purchased with controllers and carrying bag.
