Footballer Haley Bugeja to feature on FIFA 23

EA Sports announced that the 12 teams of the National Women’s Soccer League will soon join the roster of playable squads in FIFA 23, meaning Malta’s very own Haley Bugeja will feature together with her Orlando Pride teammates.

All of the NWSL Players Association’s real-life athletes will appear in FIFA 23 thanks to a licensing agreement. In the first year of women’s professional soccer in video games, there are 36 clubs overall, including the 12 NWSL clubs. They join the 12 teams in the Women’s Super League in the UK and the 12 teams in Division 1 in France.

All 36 teams are available in the game’s Kick Off modes of play (Classic, House Rules, and Volta), plus Tournament Mode, Head to Head and Co-op Seasons, and Online Friendlies. EA Sports did not specify which of the NWSL stadiums would be included in the game; four MLS stadiums (BMO Stadium, Lumen Field, Providence Park, and Red Bull Arena), where NWSL clubs also play their home games, are already in FIFA 23.

Other top-tier women’s soccer features, such as the UEFA Women’s Champions’ League and the 2023 Women’s World Cup, would be added to the game in time for the start of those events, according to a previous statement from EA Sports.
