Google just unveiled the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, two of its newest mainstream devices. Along with some fresh details on the development of the Pixel series, Google also revealed one unexpected decision.
The disclosure comes after an early-year sneak peek. At their annual developer conference, Google I/O 2022, in May, they teased the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro to the public. Viewers were given a glimpse of two white phones, one matte and one shine, each with silver camera bars on the rear. The two versions’ different camera setups were noteworthy, with the Pro appearing to have more capability.
Google has now provided fans with further information about the Pixel 7 and its larger sibling, the Pixel 7 Pro. The phones will use both the Titan M2 chip, designed to increase user data security, and the Google Tensor G2, the company’s own CPU. Surprisingly, Google also disclosed that the new phones will include a free built-in virtual private network. This is an intriguing decision considering that Google debuted its own VPN back in 2020, but it cost €10.99/month and had some additional benefits. Google made no mention of whether Pixel 7 owners would receive the same benefits.
In addition, the new phones offer a number of other enhancements and features over the older models. Better cameras on the 7 and 7 Pro will enable them to capture a wider range of skin tones properly and enhance their ability to take selfies at night. Additionally, the selfie camera now has facial recognition software that enables users to unlock the gadgets. This is combined with a fingerprint reader underneath the display for further protection. The phones will also include an extreme energy saver mode that, according to Google, may increase battery life by up to 72 hours when activated. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will also include a Clear Calling feature. The function will try to lower background noise and enhance call quality using machine learning.
The emphasis Google is placing on privacy and security, which Google’s main rival Apple has always placed front and foremost in their devices, sticks out amid the list of new and improved features. Many fans are sure to notice the Titan M2 processor, built-in VPN, face recognition technology, and fingerprint scanner that all speak to a strong focus on security.
