A Tomb Raider Movie is in the works

Shortly after it was revealed that Amazon is creating a Tomb Raider television series, additional information has surfaced suggesting that the franchise has much more in store. According to THR, a new Tomb Raider movie is also in production alongside the television show, and the two will be linked as a component of the same cinematic world. Additionally, there are plans to create at least one tie-in video game for this new Tomb Raider universe, spreading the narrative across at least three different media.

It’s not clear if the plan is for another protagonist to take the lead in the TV program and video game, or if Lara Croft will serve as the main character in each of the three mediums. The story notes that the acquisition is reported to be “among the largest commitments at Amazon,” akin to the corporation investing $250 million to acquire the rights to The Lord of the Rings. However, not much else about this new plan for Tomb Raider has yet been disclosed.

It was previously disclosed that Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who lobbied for the position as a fan of the property, had been appointed to pen the Tomb Raider series. She isn’t currently involved in the movie or video game and appears to be concentrating primarily on the TV show. Waller-Bridge will only have a supporting part in the series and won’t be playing Lara Croft, according to reports. No information has been released regarding the potential replacement for Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who both portrayed the renowned adventurer in earlier live-action adaptations.
